Victor Vaughan named national photo editor for AP

NEW YORK -- Victor Vaughan, assistant managing editor/presentation at The Arizona Daily Star, has been named national photo editor for The Associated Press.

The appointment was announced Friday by AP Director of Photography Santiago Lyon.

Vaughan will lead a photo staff of some 200 around the United States.

"I am delighted to welcome Victor into this new role. He has the focus, the talent and the desire to take on this crucial job in the AP's photo department," Lyon said. "He will bring energy, vision and imagination to his new challenge of overseeing AP's extensive photo operations in the U.S."

Vaughan joined the Daily Star in 2002 as director of photography and in 2004 was named assistant managing editor/presentation, overseeing both the photo and graphics departments. Before joining the Daily Star he worked for The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Va., from 2000 to 2002 as a night photo editor and team leader.

He worked as a photo assignment editor at the Detroit Free Press from 1998-2000. From 1995 to 1998, he worked at The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch, where he was night and projects photo editor coordinating local and wire photo content for daily and advanced reports.

Vaughan has a bachelor's degree in journalism from Norfolk State University.
