AP CEO Curley welcomes favorable Justice Department finding on AP News Registry
Today, the U.S. Department of Justice issued a favorable business review letter on AP’s plans for the news registry. A beta test of the registry began in November of 2009, and some 200 AP newspaper members are now participating in the test. We expect the registry to go live in July. In advance of the launch of the registry, AP had requested that the DoJ review our plans.
"The News Registry is a breakthrough innovation to help content creators get transparency around how content is used online and use that information to help develop exciting new products for news consumers," said Tom Curley, president and CEO of The Associated Press. "We're delighted that the Department of Justice recognized the need for a such a service and how it can benefit both consumers and those who provide them with authoritative news."
