Selsky named AP's chief of Caribbean news
NEW YORK -- Andrew Selsky, chief of
bureau for The Associated Press in Colombia, has been named
chief of Caribbean news in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The appointment
was announced Oct. 11 in New York by Deborah Seward, AP's
international editor.
Selsky will be responsible for coverage in more than 30 countries
and territories in the Caribbean region, including the Bahamas,
and Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname in South America.
Selsky has reported from two dozen countries for AP, including
Haiti and Afghanistan.
He was AP's chief of bureau for Bogota twice, first in the
mid-1990s and again since 2000. He also has reported from
Managua, Nicaragua; South Africa and Spain, where he was chief
of bureau in Madrid in 1996-1997.
Selsky joined AP in Cheyenne, Wyo., in 1984 and transferred
to Los Angeles later that year. His other domestic assignments
were in Kansas City, Mo., and on the AP's International Desk
in New York.
A native of Washington, Selsky is a graduate of Virginia Tech.
He succeeds Michelle Faul, who has been named AP's chief of
Africa news in Johannesburg.
